Lao people prefer imported fruit and vegetables

The price of vegetables in Vientiane markets has fallen, the Laophattana newspaper reported on Friday.

Vientiane authorities carried out price checks in markets last week and suggested the drop in prices was due to the fact that farmers grow more crops in the rainy season.

The price of onion and coriander has fallen from 25,000- 35,000 kip to 18,000-30,000 kip per kilogramme while the price of chilli, limes, tomatoes, beans, morning glory, ginger and other vegetables has also dropped. Meanwhile the price of tilapia also fell, to 15,000-18,000 kip per kg , while frogs and eels are now selling for 50,000-70,000 kip per kilogramme. The price of meat remains unchanged however, with beef selling for 70,000-75,000 kip per kg, pork for 30,000-40,000 kip per kg, and chicken and duck for 35,000-45,000 kip per kg.
